Why does math have to
be so hard for so many? I love math! I love the way it challenges me to think,
work and solve to find the correct answer. So when I read Ainissa Ramirez’s Blog, “Do the Math… Right”, I started to
understand a little more about why people don’t enjoy math. This article was so
interesting for me to read. Ramirez has some good suggestions on how to “fix”
educating students in mathematics. (Ramirez, 2013)

I also read this article. Last year was my first year in 10 to teach math again and realized that I needed to find ways to help my students want to participate. I also liked the suggestions from this article.
ReplyDeleteI, too, teach math and I can say this article is right on target in so many ways. We have just transitioned to teaching Common Core standards but the universities are keeping up in preparing young teachers to teach a discovery learning strategy and the parents of my students were freaking out because "that wasn't the way they were taught". We are discouraging top students from pursuing math and science majors.
